I got a call from this number early yesterday (8:30 AM CT). Caller had an Indian accent and spoke very poor English. The ploy was that I had entered a contest in December of 2006 with American Airlines and United Airlines (an improbable combination). I was told that I was one of the winners of the contest and if they could verify some information, then they would give me a confirmation number and an address in town where I could pick up my "prize".
I knew this was a scam, but wanted to see where it was headed (I did not have the phone number that they called in 12/2006).
I told the caller that he had called a business telephone number that was listed in the Do Not Call registry, but he side-stepped by saying this wasn't a solicitation call. After "confirming" some incorrect data on my "entry form", I was handed to a supervisor for a QC call. I was not transferred, I was literally handed to another caller that had an Indian accent, but spoke much clearer English. I was told that I had won a three day, 5 night (you do the math) trip and I would select the location upon coming into the office with my ID, my companion, and my credit card at 6:00 PM today. I was given the address, then I hung up and called the police.
