It is a scam...864-336-2400 call your local police station. they have had a couple calls already but the more calls about it.. the better chance you have to get the scammers caught! remember if someone does not report it. there is someone out there that WILL fall for it.
I answered my cell and the "robo-caller" was an automated message saying it was the Patent Office Federal Credit Union, said my credit card had been compromised and directed me to dial 1 for their security dept. I hung up - don't have a CC with that bank. An hour later I got my first ever spam text. Coincidence? I think not. By answering I showed that my number was a working one. Dang it!
Also got an automated (computerized voice) saying it was the Patent and Trade Federal Credit Union and my card had been deactivated, press 1 to reinstate. I pressed one and tried a bogus number, but it did pick up on the number being a fake and hung up after the third try.
Yup, got the call about 12:30 pm today (05 Oct 2010) on my cell phone. Wife got same call. Patent and Trade Office Federal Credit Union. Voicemail was cut off for both of us, so we never got to the bogus number. Pressing '5' on my cell phone voicemail gave me the "envelope" info, including the 864-336-2400 telephone number.
Got the call midday today on cell phone. Some credit union telling us that our "Account has been charged by an unauthorized third party" and they wanted us to provide the account number and details. Scammers.
