Received call from Mrs Burman (caller ID said 864-469-0915) told me to give msg to husband for him to call her, she could not discuss with me (yesterday missed call from 864-845-2084 - no msg left), but with his permission she could discuss the "whole thing" with me. We have never had anything in collections, so not sure what this is all about.
Yea received a call from was answered and they told me I owed money for a altel bill in 2002 and I told them I never had a phone from that company and still asked me if I was still going to pay and I say no and they said there attorney well see me in court.
Called at 1pm MST 8/3/2010, left no message. Unpublished number based in Piedmont, SC.
Returned call this morning, company identified as CRA (Capital Recovery Associates). 3rd-party bill collectors. I'm sure I owe someone something.

From looking at everyone's posts, I gather we have all been hearing from the same people. Yes, it is Capital Recovery Associates. We do not have any payments that are behind on anything. In fact, we don't owe much to anyone. I did read on another board that this same number offered someone a school grant and then took lots of money out of their bank account. I would stay as far away from these people as possible. Sounds like a SCAM to me.
Don't be intimidated!!! They do not have an attorney to take you to court. They are a third party collection agency who have bought old debts from a company who wrote off your debts if you had any. They will call you until you could pull your hair out, but hang tough and do not take the calls. They will eventually quit trying to reach you. Just remember, if you, or anyone on this site, has had bad debts in South Carolina (or any state come to that), they are removed in 7 to 10 years. You cannot be forced to pay anything to the third party collection people.
