I missed a call from this number on a Saturday afternoon.  No message was left.  It was around the same time that a Verizon technician was supposed to call me, but again, no message was left.  I tried to call it back and a recording simply said, "Please dial the four digit extension you are trying to reach".  I had no extension to dial so I dialed zero, (doing this usually connects with the main phone where someone can transfer you), but it just hung up on me.  If it WAS Verizon, it's disappointing to know that they wouldn't set up a message to acknowledge it.

noticed a call on sunday 9:19 today, I didn't answer the call due to being sunday. Called the # back and got "enter your partied extention" after a few seconds it hang up. Received on my cell phone, which I've had a very short time. Is verizon selling our customer #'s to third party business with out permision?

If you are getting this phony  "Verizon" party, and you're in CA, I was advised by my comcast rep to call CA Dept of Consumer Affairs, as well as, if necessary, the Attorney General's office.  My verizon store has never heard of either the 864 number, or the number I was told to call (from the 864- party) about "an outstanding bill" (not):  1-800-754-0921.  When I called the latter number, I got a recording that the number is "out of my calling area."  Which is odd, since when dialing my landline, they would have known the area code of my landline, and therefore should have known whether such an 800 # "works" or not as a call-back.  (I had the identical experience, as those above, when calling back the 864- number which was caller-ID'd on my cell.)

They keep calling my landline and demanding to speak to my daughter, who has already transferred authority to me for this family (3-person) account, and that's in verizon records.

I don't know whether verizon is "selling our #'s," but it's possible that a third party is invading our numbers, without assistance.  I'm sure it's not that difficult, whether landlines or cells.

If you have a company like Comcast for a landlline, you can block numbers, apparently, by going through #99 from that land line.

I will be filing a complaint with the FCC, with whom I spoke today.

Here's my advice if you get them live:  tell them you are putting them on speakerphone to have them listened to by a third party of your choice, and that additionally you are recording them.  See how long they stay on the line or if they change their tune.

It's me again.  I located the number:  It's Southern Bell, a Division of AT&T, in Greenville, SC.  This is a slamming attempt -- trying to get a customer away from a competing phone company.  I'm filing a complaint with my state Public Utilities Commission, as well as the FCC now.  Do not fall for this.  This people are rats; tell them you know who they are, and you're reporting them to all possible enforcement agencies.
