The caller said she was from Nova/Elavon (my credit card processing company) and told me I needed to update my machine and register my new Merchant ID. The only post I could find about this was on the Luisiana Dental Association website.
"NOVA / ELAVON is NOT updating their terminals. Someone is calling member dentists as "Merchant Services" from phone number 866-559-9257 advising of a processing and equipment upgrade. This is NOT a NOVA /ELAVON product or service upgrade. Please be advised that this is a scam and this company is in no way endorsed by the LDA or LDS. If you do what the company requests you will end up on a new platform with a new rate and equipment to pay for that you do not need."
The number in this post is different so I'm not sure if mine is a scam or the real thing. I called my rep and left a message but he hasnt called back yet. I'll update this once I know for sure.
If this is truly a company. Why did I get a phone call from them on my cell phone at 10:08 p.m. at night. I missed the call. However, if they call back, I will update everyone.
I can verify this phone number IS Elavon (formerly known as NOVA) located at 7300 Chapman Highway in Knoxville TN. Elavon is a credit card processing company. There are many different departments and many different reasons why some of you may have received calls from Elavon, but regardless of the person calling you, it will always show as 403-7300. If you are a merchant and have a question about the legitimacy of a call from this number, you can always call your customer service number located on the side of your terminal or on your merchant billing statement. Hope this clears up some confusion.
