After 2 months of receiving these ghost calls, I finally spoke to a service rep. from the call center using the number 901-248-0600. I remained quiet on the phone until I heard someone respond. It took me 3 times to get it right.
1) These calls are computer generated from a call center. Also the call center may support several different charities.
2) Per a previous posting, these calls are computer generated. It appears the program will call out to several different numbers on a national basis at the same time.
3) The calls are dropped because there may not be enough service reps to complete the connection.
4) Or the service rep cannot hear the caller on the other end due to a bad connection from the call center's computer program being used.
After speaking with my service rep, I requested to be placed on the 'do not call list' and to take my name off of the 'supporter' list. The charity lost my support after being harassed by the calls and their inefficient way of soliciting donations.
Plus, I called my phone company (Surewest) to block the calls. *60 is the way to go!
48 hours later...no calls from 901-248-0600. ABSOLUTE RELIEF!
I spoke to them on Dec 3 and they also assured me that they would not call back and today Dec 17 they did.I did not answer the phone now after reading this i wish i would have! If this is not a scam why does it come up the with the name Dustin Steele on caller id and not the charity name and when you try to call back it disconnects.Im gonna post something on Craigs list in rants and raves Ohio-Dayton/Springfield plz comment on there i think i will start this for all these kind of calls.Plz do this in your state and city maybe we can put a end to this by giving them a bad name.This day and age NO ONE would give them money over the phone unless they are a push over and these people a praying on those kind of people very sad!
PLEASE READ AND ALSO DO THIS!!! I googled this number and came across a website to Memphis Aviation Services that had this number on there page.I called the 800# listed and talked to a very nice man that told me he gets calls almost dailey from people like me he said to contact Sprint/Mci cause these are robo calls and tell them that they need to pull the number and if they dont that i will take action for a class action law suit......I do believe there are enough of us to do so. Mci will not do anything about this so i called my local "country bumpkin" carrier and there are only 2 things to do call the better Bussines Bureau or put a block on this number for 3.00 more dollars a month i wont pay them for services they should provide for me since i pay them monthly (verizon does this free for up to 5 #'s).I would like to know who this number is actually listed to.
To date, I have gotten calls that have Caller ID names of bout 20 of the 50 states - all of them hangups. I bet it's the same telemarketing company doing it from different numbers.
I will add it to my Phone Filter software like all the other callers who just have States for their CID - problem solved! It sucks that I have to spend money on software, but at least it works if you have a supported voice modem and sound card on your computer. My computer didn't have one, so I picked up a voice modem on eBay for $8. Works pretty good for most of them, but you have to type in the number exactly as it appears in the software's listing - no added spaces or dashes. The modem says some of them are "UNKNOWN" phone number - So you can block all those too, just by typing UNKNOWN for the phone number in the call filter list :-)
I make it play one of several sound files on the first ring after the phone number is recognized. I downloaded the sound files from the Internet that have Out-of-Service signals, such as the "Please deposit 25 cents" recording, or the "Your service has been restricted" from the phone company.
