We are on a Do Not Call list which used to work and now there are so many irritating calls. It seems no one is enforcing the list. I wish these criminals could be thrown in jail. I answered the call this morning, there was silence, then they hung up. Suspicious, so I came here to report.
These idiots called on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day & the day after. If the phone rings more than twice,
by the time you answer they hang up. This is an 'unlisted #' so I won't ever be answering it. Whoever is doing it is making a nuisance of themselves and intruding on my privacy.
My father had a cold call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft customer support. He gave 901 290 7209 as his contact number. He claimed my dad's laptop was giving out lots of errors over the internet and got him to launch EventViewer and I assume my dad read out a few lines from this. One of the 'events' (there are always loads in EventViewer) was that my dad's trial version of Office has expired. He just uses it to read word attachments on emails. This guy then said he needed to buy a MS Product Key for £200 and wanted his credit card details. Luckily my dad said it was too much money etc and didn't give any card details out.
From what i can tell Micosoft NEVER randomly call people, so please be aware!
Got a cold call from people claiming to be getting messages from my computer and wanting to fix it. They told me to go to ammyy.com which sells a legitimate remote login software -- the problem is any one can use it to scam you into giving control of your computer.
Long story short -- don't start ammyy for a cold caller. The ammyy.com site even has a warning not to do it.
Wierd thing is they gave me this number, 901-290-7209, and people actually answer it under the company name, Group Resolve, supposedly on Manhatan Island, NY. Either they are naive, not in NY, or legit. Obviously, not afraid. I told them I was going to report them to the FBI and he said, ok, I'll call you tomorrow.
