Some sort of automated political survey. Pushed choice buttons other than the ones they wanted and the machine hung up. As a devout Radical Moderate, I have no idea why anyone would want to know my political views
Unsolicited calls are verboten in my home because they are all either telemarketing, scam, robocalls and therefore just plain Not Wanted. It is a pity there is not that option here under "Call Type".
I don't answer calls from the 901 or the 256 area codes because I don't have ny contacts there and most of the Not Wanted calls seem to come from there. On my home phone I block them call by call, but I'm planning on buying a call blocker so that I will be able to block the entire area code and never get any calls from that time forward.
It was probably a predictive dialer. A computer calls all the numbers in a range one by one. When the phone is picked up by something other than a fax, it labels that number as valid and will use it again. If the call gets a number unobtainable or similar sound, it strikes that number from the database.
