SCAM! Had a few messages from this number, called back and immediately was answered by a woman who would not state her company or address. Said I owed 1800 dollars from a pay day
Loan that never happened. Told her I would call back and did so, she was extremely hostile saying I would have a warrant for my arrest if I didn't give her my credit card number immediately
Scam. Little better than extortion. Only judges issue warrants and they are only used in criminal cases to duly constituted officers of the law. Debt collectors have nothing to do with the criminal justice system. Being in debt is not a crime and you cannot be arrested for it in any case.
Report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening arrest or criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a clear violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act)
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now. If you can find them.
The party making these calls has called and been reported on another site as Robert Baxtrom. Same sort of extortionate demands. I called this 901-444-3524 --this guy will not give you any information and becomes combative. I recognize the guy's voice based on other calls I've made concerning similar scams.
I'm not certain but I think this guy is working out of Rancho Cucamonga CA or perhaps Ontario CA.
