-Don't even answer the phone when it comes in "Green Cove S FL. Knew something was wrong when they asked for my credit card & I declined-said" send envelope & I'll send check. Doesn't sound legit. I doubt I'll receive anything in mail.Watch out for these callers.
They have been calling my house off and on for at least the past year. When they call, a female asks for someone by their first name. When I say, "You have the wrong number.", the caller then says, "You know what, I have the right number!". After which, I hang up while she is still speaking. After reading the above posts I decided to call the number, (904)297-3115. An answering machine picks up and says with something about breast cancer awareness. I left a message saying that they keep calling my number and asking for someone who this number does not belong to. I then say that nobody at this number has contacted them or wants any contact with them. I also give my phone number and tell them to remove it from their system or I will report them to the appropriate agency.
I don't live too far from the calls origin in Green Cove Springs Florida. If these calls do in fact continue, they very well may receive an answer in person. I REALLY can't stand scammers. It's really strange that I can't find any information online about an organization having anything to do with breast cancer awareness in Green Cove Springs Florida if in fact there were one that is legitamate.
I have not ever let them speak to the point of asking for any money. I would NOT send any organization money that I can't find any information on. You may as well take your cash and throw it in the fireplace. Then you may, at the very least, get a little warmth from it. If you really want to help with the issue, there are several reputable ones that you can find online. Then you will know for sure that some of the money will actually be doing some good.
I answered this call from Green Cove Springs, although hesitatingly. She started by asking for my husband's name. I asked who is calling after which she mentioned Breast Cancer Awareness. When I told her we give to the charity that we choose and that I was a cancer survivor (true) but not breast cancer. She seemed startled and pleasantly said have a good day.
This is the first time I got a call from anyone associated with breast cancer. I don't think it is a coincidence that I just had a mammogram last week, first time since moving to Florida. Are they selling your information? I thought your health was protected by HIPPA laws. I am going to call the center tomorrow and find out if they give out lists to these people. I did not give her a chance to go through her scenario, told her I don't do donations over the phone. When I saw the number on my caller ID, I was thinking it had something to do with MY results. Won't answer the phone again if it's them.
Have received three calls in Feb and Mar '13. They don't leave a message. Caller ID shows [BREAST CANCER]. Not annoying yet, just takes up memory space in my answering machine...
Got a call from this number asking for my husband by name. I said he was not home and she said she could speak to either of us. She asked if we would make a donation to bring smiles to face of children who have cancer if she sent us an envelope and information in the mail. I said I would have to see when I get the info and discuss it with my hubby. She was pleasant, said she understood and said to have a nice evening. How does she have our address? Random calls from looking in a phone book? Sure do not like solicitation calls at home. It was a relatively local number, that is the only reason why I even took the call.
