Are you crazy? First of all, simply don't answer the call if you don't know who's calling. Second, don't ever call them back. Either way, you are confirming you have a viable number and you will find yourself on many new lists. If they're legit, they will leave you a message.
Called my damn cell phone and asked for me by name. I don't give my # out to anyone other than close friends and kin. It was some woman asking for contributions to breast cancer. And then they went into some spiel. I interrupted and told them, private number, don't call again (like that will work). Hung up and blocked. Crooked dealings like this guarantees I'll never give anything to them. When I do give to charity ( other than church) I pay in cash in person with a receipt to "anonymous donor". Always hoping that it will keep others from contacting me.
Called ask for Miguel, when I said wrong number she said maybe you can help me, I hung up. Not thr first time this person has called saying the same thing.
Called about a breast cancer fundraiser. Asked if we would donate. When I said I had never heard of the charity the woman said "great! We'll put you down for $20!" And hung up.
Number showed up on my caller ID as a Turkey based phone number. Leads me to think this number may be being spoofed and used for a variant on the "Can you hear me" scam based on descriptions above. I got a similar call from another 904 based number for the same thing soliciting a donation a few days ago.
