Moments ago, I got an unsolicited call from "Stephanie at Card Services", wanting to lower my credit-card interest-rate to 3.9% for life.
Lots of background "chatter", and other voices reciting the same script that Stephanie was reciting.
Upon her request, I gave her _BOGUS_ birth-date, current credit-card expiry-date, and credit-card number.
She knew my name, but 30 seconds with a Google-search on my ten-digit telephone-number will show my name & address.
I asked for the city from where she was calling. Her first answer: Canada. Wrong!
I asked again, and she answered British Columbia. Wrong! BC is not a "city".
I asked again, and she answered Delta, which is a BC city.
Note that area-code '905' is *NOT* assigned to B.C.
So, she's probably using a VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) to "spoof" her telephone number.
She wanted to "verify" my information, and then to pass my call to her supervisor.
I finally hung-up on her, after wasting 8 minutes of her time.
I hope that she gets fired at the end of the week, for being the least-productive person at her call-center.
I received the same number calling today. Very rude caller when I said I am not interested. So I filed a complaint online to the National Do No Call List: https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/plt-cmp-eng. I greatly hope they can do something to stop these annoying scam calls. I strongly suggest all who received these kind of calls should file complaints.
This number keeps calling and giving fake call back numbers also asking for the same thing mastercard or visa what can we do to stop this/these idiots from calling
So here is my tactic with these [***] whom I've been dealing with for about 2 years now. When they call, upon picking up the phone, I immediately say "Hello" which is then followed by that famous beep (if you listen for it). Then you hear the people in the background and if you pay close enough attention, the same voice/person is calling you every-time. Upon hearing the beep, I mute my phone to make sure they cannot hear me and laugh as they try whatever they can to get me to speak. Finally after doing this for about a hundred times, the guy has caught on and today, 5 minutes ago he said "thank you for responding" after which silence because I again muted him. Thats the best way to take care of these [***]. I already tried contacting the local authorities, followed by a police report and nothing can be done. They used to call a ridiculous amount of times however after playing these mute games with them, its managed to work and reduce the calls vastly.
I received a call. I told him which Bank Institute he was with. I knew it was a scam but didn't say anything. He got mad and told me to listen and named all the banks. I said sure let me get my purse. He asked for my birthday, gave him a wrong one which he confirmed. Then he asked for my card # which I gave a fake #. Then I said, I'm hanging up, I know this is a scam because you just confirmed a wrong birthdate and wrong card #. He started swearing at me and I hung up. He called me back and the 905-243-9860 number showed up. Funny because the first call showed up as Unavailable Unknown Number. Which is what shows up when my relatives from Europe call me. So it's hard not to answer, because sometimes it is my relatives. They phone a lot. I don't answer when I know it is a time my relatives would not be calling me at. When he called me back he was very vulgar. Hung up.
