Same thing just happened to me 5 minutes ago and decided to google it to see if anyone else had the same thing. Of course I found this. I asked why are they needing to do that and she hung up.
recd a call asking for Mrs X, identified themselves as city of Whitby wanting to check water and gas pipes in home. Told them they would need to send me a registered letter to formally book something as i had no way to identify who they were. they immediately hung up. tried calling the number back and out of service, of course!
same thing just happend to me, town of Whitby. making their rounds...! damn them. i feel sorry for anyone who actually falls for this. glad i found this post.
same as above, a female voice, european accent saying that she was calling from the town of whitby and was sending someone to check my gas and water pipes in my basement at 5p tomorrow. I asked why the phone number was coming up as 'unknown' and she hung up. Definitely felt like a phishing call, just not sure for what.
Got a call in Milton Ontario from this number with no extra 1 in front of the number. no message left. I guess they are trying a different area where people are not aware who they are, The number came up long distance but you see the number once you use the arrow key on the phone. Wish they would stop calling.
