I answered the phone and said hello several times before I heard a voice. The caller (a male voice) said they are calling from the computer technical department. I asked them "what company are you calling from". The caller said "the computer technical department". I said that is not telling me what "company" you are calling from. The caller angrily screamed at me and said I'm trying to tell you the name of the company. I hung up. This call was received today 8/9/2014 at 4:15. Hang up if you get the call.
Like many of you, I have gotten similar calls today. Yesterday, I started having problems with my computer while using a certain website for work. Then today the calls began...The first time, I answered, but no one responded, so I hung up. The second time they told me they needed me to log into my computer so they could fix it...they said their name was Freddy. I was surprised and hung up immediately. I dialed back the number and found "it was out of service." The third time I was called I was prepared. Again the young man told me he was trying to fix my computer and that he just needed me to turn my computer on and log in. I replied that I knew THEY were the ones causing me problems with my computer and I needed THEIR information so I could complete my police report. The caller told me their name was "Bob Williams" and then hung up. The young man was speaking with a fake Indian accent. I followed through and called the police. I showed then the computer and the phone log and I filed a report.
This number has called me at least 30 times in the last week. They either hang right up, ask to speak to the "owner of the windows computer" or will stay completely silent. I have done everything from threatening to call the police to shouting at them. They call right back and can't speak English very well at all. After reading a few of the posts from all of you I decided to play along the next time they called and sound very interested in what they had to stay. I pretended I could hardly hear him and asked if I could have his number incase we were disconnected. He seemed hesitant but told me his name was "Harry" and can be reached at 1-984-510-7565 but I haven't checked it yet. I played along as the nervous computer owner (He was adament that he was a Windows Technician and he's getting reports that my account shows major errors but couldn't even tell me my name) He kept saying to press the Windows tab and the "R" key at the same time and it will show me what errors I have. Ofcourse I didn't and after quizzing him a little more ( I kept saying what else do you know about me or my computer? What kind of computer do I have?) that he finally got fed up and hung up on me. I hope these morons are caught.
Called 3 times last night (twice after we closed), called 3 times today. Hangs up/silence every time I've answered. At least they haven't tried to sell me anything but it's just annoying to get these calls with nothing at the other end.
Union, NJ... another unwanted scammer who left no message. Simple fix: I Bbocked the number on my Call Blocking Phone, which we love. I keep an updated list of these fools on my computer and if they have not called in 4 months I unblock that number. This keeps the active/current blocked call numbers to about 23. There is room for 30 blocked calls on our phone.
