I got a call on my cell phone from this number today. They left a message stating they were with Verizon Wireless, that someone was trying to make changes to my account, and that I needed to call back some 877 number and use my 10-digit reference number (which just so happened to be my cell phone number).
I called back Verizon Wireless directly (rather than at the number they gave me) and told the representative about the call. She confirmed that no changes had been made to my account and that when changes are made, they do not call but e-mail and/or text. I confirmed with her that, in the past, that had been my experience as well. She asked for the number the call came from (910-816-0619), and she could not verify that it was a Verizon Wireless number. She and I both concluded that it was likely a scam. Unfortunately I had already deleted the voicemail with the 877 number the message had directed me to call back, so I couldn't have her verify that.
Long story short, it sounds like a scam. DO NOT call the number they tell you to call because you will be giving them your phone number, and they'll probably ask for your account-specific PIN to verify it's your phone number. When you do that, you'll be giving scammers access to your account, and they can add/remove phones and change services at will.
If you ever get a call from someone claiming to be Verizon Wireless (or any other wireless carrier, credit card company, etc.) do not give them any information and call the company back at a number you know to be their correct number.
