Asked for the wrong name, but had it close.
I asked if they wanted to leave a message for said person and they hung up.
Anytime there is a pause when we answer the phone, it's pretty much guaranteed to be a call from a "call center" of some kind.
These days I often just hang up if they do not answer me on my first hello.
Just received this call - not like any I have had before - probable scam.
Asked for me by name - I recently moved and have a new phone number - so their data is recent.
Lady said she was calling on behalf of 'American Oil and Gas Producers'.
There were background sounds consistent with a 'boiler room' (call center).
After asking to confirm the city I lived in - I asked who she was calling for again (she repeated american oil and gas producers).
Then she said she just needed to confirm a few more things - and asked if I still had at least $1 million in total assets or $200,000 in annual income.
Well - I don't give out financial information to a stranger that calls my house, and asked for further explanation of why she was calling me. She said that a simple yes or no would suffice, but I explained that I had no reason to answer any questions until I knew why she was calling. (BTW - the answer is 'no', but that is none of her business!)
She could/would not explain further, and I repeated that I don't give out information to cold callers.
She hung up.
My best guess is this is either a shady investment pitch or a flat out phishing scam.
Also - caller ID showed "Out of Area' but the exchange is not far from me.
