Well, they called back and I answered in time to be connected to a computerized solicitation to help 'homeless veterans'.
The automated voice asked questions and then had pauses to collect your answer.
The pitch did mention that they were a 'compensated solicitor' - meaning they probably keep most of the money.
Wanted to send me a pledge envelope.
I guess this is an automated version of the long-tested 'veterans charity' scams - but I guess the success rate has become too low to afford a real human to work the scam.
I tried messing with the AI with odd answers, and it soon disconnected.
This is at best a scummy paid solicitor, and may be an outright criminal scam.
ps - Do not push any buttons for them!
And never give a positive response to any question (like 'yes' or 'OK') as they may paste that into a fake record of the call that indicates you agreed to donate - and harass you for payment.
Got a call from this number at 8:54pm tonight. Didn't recognize the number so I didn't pick up. They hung up as soon as the answering machine picked up.
