My mother got this saying they are from the IRS and are going to file a lawsuit against her. She got 2 other calls from the IRS before and they used a legitimate IRS # for non profit status. Now they have changed it to this new # located in New York. We are in Calif. time and they called at 6AM our time
My experience was the same as Suzanne described above. I got an automated message from 929-800-4550 telling me to call 202-738-1233 because the IRS was filing suit against me. A man calling himself Michael Brown answered; I was told that if I didn't make payment immediately a warrant would be filed for my arrest. He would provide no specifics regarding how they came up with the amount they said I owed. As I continued to press for information, the conversation deteriorated. At one point, he asked me, "Are you stupid?" I Googled the two phone #'s and found evidence of other scams. Have reported him to the IRS and the Federal Trade Commission.
