Put in an ad on Car.com and soon got the following text message: Hello, Is your vehicle still for sale? If you, I would like to know if it's still in good condition.
Me: yes it is. I believe it is in good condition.
Them: Thanks for the swift response, Are you the owner?. Do you have clean title and how much is your asking price.
Me: Yes yes and 7 grand........
Them: Your asking price is quite reasonable, I'm buying for myself, my shipper coming to test drive and pick it up, Sighning of paper work and changing of ownership will be done. Do you have paypal?
Me: No. It will have to be cash if you expect to just pick it up. Where are you located?
Them: Sorry. I can only send the payment through my paypal cuz it has been attached with my bank account.
Me: ....I'll set one up as it does sound like an easy payment method.
Them: ....After you set it up. I'll only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through and include you physical address in repy?
Me: I signed up for a paypal account. Email is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Send me a short email and will fire back my address.
Them: Thanks for the mail..I would like to contact my shipping company to know how much I'm going to pay for the shipping fees before I proceed with the payment.. kindly take off the advert so other buyer will be aware that it has been sold
Me: I think it would be prudent to have your shipper test drive the (car) and review transfer paperwork before taking the ad down.
Them: I had a problem with the shipper says i'll need to pay for the pick up before they can schedule a pick up time, they charged me $770 for pick up and delivery, I'll add the $770 to money i'll send through Paypal now.
Me: Don't forget to send me an email so I can send to you my address.
Them: The payment have just been made few minutes ago, I expect Paypal to have emailed you by now, check your Paypal email inbox for confirmation if you have been messaged yet--Brown
Them: Hello seller, I would like to know have you received confirmation email from Paypal--Brown
Me: .......I did get an email confiming that you sent $7800.00.
Them: Ok follow the the instructions on the confirmation email you received to complete the transaction.
At this point I read the instructions carefully. I was to money gram $770.00 to an shipper prior to receiving any paypal deposit. It was all very confusing and not well explained in the email, which looked official enough. Push comes to shove, I was to send money to someone so he would complete the paypal transfer. Sounded pretty fishy to me. So I get sat on it. They texted me next several hours later.
Them: Hello seller, what's going on
Me: Sorry I had to go to work. Be back at midnight.
Them: Ok
next morning
Them: Since you have gotten a confirmation email from paypal. Are to trying to steal from me
Me: F*ck you. Go buy some other car, [***].
Since my experience I found out that this is a typical scam...paypal, shipper, prepay shipper...don't fall for it.

Almost identical correspondence with me and same #. I got suspicious as soon as he mentioned paying me extra money for shipping and having me give that to the shipper.
I found it suspicious when I put an ad for my car on car.com up and although it said "0 views," 3 different people asked me to pay via paypal, in full, and have a shipper come and get the car from me.
I googled the number (the one above) and found this number. It is a scam.
If you want to sell a car, demand it not be through paypal. These people will "buy the car" then demand money back for it because the "car isn't in good condition" and then because paypal doesn't have insurance for car purchases, so you lose money because they will get their money back, ask for repair money, AND lose the car.
