Yes, yet another new number for them! I've now collected 10 of them and I know there will be more. I will never pick up the phone with these numbers (nor any that I do not recognize) but I always come to this site to check.

Portfolio Recovery I have been bothered by them for ten years. I just refuse to talk to them. The cannot touch me.
But here is a neat little secret. I forward my home phone through google voice and google screens all my calls.
I never get the calls any more. I have a second phone in the house and can pick up without the worry of having todeal with these clowns.
Third Portfolio post today. You could simply send them a cease and desist letter by certified, return receipt mail and they would be required to stop calling you.

Bizapedia has them as a Delaware Corporation started in 2007 as opposed to the information on the BBBB page that says 1996:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of the date of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
yes, definitely file a complaint with your state's attorney general's office. When I did that, Portfoolio received a letter from the ag consumer protection department, stating that they must show their company name in the caller Id, and that they may call no more than twice in any one day, and also limiting the number of times they may call in a week. They were also forced to reply to the letter I had written them, and which they had ignored, asking them to verify the debt. Their lawyer Pearson wrote back and admitted the debt could not be verified.
Be careful about telling them to quit calling, as they are malicious bottom-feeding vermin, and they may issue you a fraudulent 1099-C to the IRS, imputing as income to you some outrageous amount of money, at least twice the amount of the original debt you may or may not even owe, and which they bought for pennies on the dollar. IOW, they may have paid about $60 or $75 for a line on a printout from some bank I never heard of, but they will tell the IRS that your failure to pay them $5000 imputes that much income to you. I had to deal with the IRS, and also sent a complaint to the USPostal Service, for fraudeulent use of the mails.
