Yet another poster who signed up for a govt freebie, but was unable to understand what it really does, or why it was instituted. The Do Not Call Registry works well. It is your understanding of it that is faulty.

Fact: The National Do Not Call list is NOT a call blocker!
The DNC list is a LIST, subscribed to / purchased by legitimate telemarketers, so they know who not to call. The FCC or FTC do not give or sell the list to unqualified recipients! Click "Tip" for a tip.

Fact: Telephone numbers on the Registry don’t expire. You do NOT have to re-register periodically.
Fact: Scammers and spammers ignore the DNC list .
Many use "war dialers" to quickly dial phone numbers. After all, phone numbers are just numbers, and are no secret! (Arabic numbers were invented about 500 AD, so even stupid scammers know about them by now).
Fact: The DNC list does not apply to NON-sales calls , such as political calls, charities, surveys, debt collectors and businesses with which you have done business with during the previous 18 months.
Fact: Spam callers can be blocked by getting a real call blocker .
Google (or your favorite search engine) is your friend.

We get a lot of calls almost every day and normally we let the answering machine takes the calls. Of course the Scammers never leave messages, but I decided that I wanted to see what kind of scam this was. This woman sounded like she had sort of a foreign accent. She asked me if someone in our household would soon be eligible for Medicare which I thought was strange since it shows Refi Mortgage on the caller information. I questioned her twice about what state she was calling from and then I asked If she was within the United States or outside of the United States. She would not answer my question and I hung up on her. My Husband and I are on a no call list in the state of Missouri which does not work. I wish the government could stop these scammers. They Would have their work cut out for Them!
Hey Slim, I'm curious as to what call blocker you use. I have what I think is a decent one, and I get multiple "one ring only" calls daily to show that it's working as designed. But there are still several "first-time abusers" daily that have to be blocked. These folks change their numbers so often that the blocker manufacturers can't keep their lists current. I assume that is why you still check and respond here on 800notes, but I hope I'm wrong.
