For those who say they are on the do-not-call list as if that means anything, you should know that scammers don't care about that. After all, they're scammers. They're deceitful by nature. Their only goal is get your money into their pockets by any means possible, whether by persuasion, lies, or threats of imminent doom. The DNC list means as much to them as locking your doors means to a burglar.
Best bet is to not answer calls you don't recognize. Block numbers if you can, though scammers continually change or spoof numbers in hopes of catching you off guard.
If you do answer, hang as soon as possible. Don't say "hello" more than once. If dead air, hang up -- the scammers are only trying to learn if a person answered so they can tell other scammers the best time to call you. Don't listen to recorded messages -- hang up. Don't engage the caller if there is one -- hang up. Don't push a button thinking that you can convince a live person to remove you from their list -- they're scammers -- they don't care -- hang up! Don't answer any questions, including "can you hear me okay?" Hang up. Don't push any buttons to have your number removed -- scammers aren't going to remove your number -- they're just going to know that they got your attention. Don't call the number back.
Caller ID showed only: "Service call". After answering, the female caller wanted to meet up with me for an "encounter". Told the caller never to call my number again or I would tell the police on them.
