Harbor Front Acquisitions LLC, is a debt collector for payday loans. They brought the loan. They left a message saying that they were going to serve papers and if I called them back they would stop the process. I spoke to them as per my rights I asked them to provide in writing the name of the original creditor and the debt validation letter. I provided them with a email so we'll see if they follow through. But you also need the following things that they are not allowed to do:
What a debt collector CANNOT do:
• Use deceptive practices. For example, threaten you with arrest or trick you into paying for collection calls.
• Use obscene language.
• Call you at work after you tell them that your boss does not approve these calls.
• Deny you the right to receive a written notice (within five days after your first phone conversation) that would tell you how much you owe and the name of the creditor that says you owe the money. If you do not receive the notice within five days, call the collection agency and ask for its address and fax number. Then, send a letter to the collector noting its failure to send you the required notice. As a minimum, make a note in your file.
• Refuse to give its name and the name of the collection company when asked.
• Put a debt on your credit report if you file a dispute. It must validate the debt by obtaining a verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment from the creditor before continuing their collection efforts. The results of the investigation must be mailed to you
Received three calls so far from this company, one from an unknown number, one from NJ and one from TX. The TX message included using my ex-spouse's name (divorced for 30 years). I never answer calls from numbers I don't know and will block them. Also resubscribed to the FCC wireless do not call list.
These people called me leaving a voice mail stating they were McLennan County District Court and they had a certified notice of intent to deliver to me but needed a correct address. They stated that attached to this letter was a mediation stamp that said I could contact the filing attorney for Harbor Fronts and left the phone number 972-457-3300. They stated that if I contacted them today and worked with them out of court that I could get an emergency postponement filed. She sounded very professional and the caller ID number was actually the number for the McLennan County District Court office. I called the 972 number and spoke with a gentleman who wanted me to pay on a collection from 2013. I played it off and told them I would call them back with a payment method. In the meantime I called the McLennan County District Court and spoke to an investigator. He told me that they would never conduct business that way and this is all a scam. Beware people and do not be afraid to call someone higher up to verify before you give people money over the phone!
Got a new phone and number in February. As of yesterday got first call that threatened with court action and never mentioned the name who they wanted. Today got another robo call both left on voice mail and when they announced the name of the person they trying to reach the voice was scrambled that one could not understand. Definitely heavy handed attitude to harassment and scare tactics. Have no clue who or what they want but calling a cell phone carries a fine for each call from $500 to $1500 each call. Telephone Consumer Protection Act is violated calling a cell phone using robo call tactics. So each time they call me the sum adds up and i will see them in court. This harbor front acquisitions llc is breaking federal law. My attorney is going to love this one.
