The number comes up as Rainsoft on my phone and when I called Rainsoft they had no record of calling me. Since I am a client of theirs I can believe them.
They get your number by sending out "FREE $20.00 Amazon gift card just for filling out this survey and returning it within 48 hours!"
That's a lie! Now they want you to listen to a sales pitch for an hour or two. I told them, No thanks, but send my gift card like you said you would! I better get it ASAP! Tammy said I had to listen to the sales pitch first. "Then I am calling the city of Dallas and the Better Business Bureau for deceptive practices. That is not what the card said, M'am!" She then tried to get more info. She said she needed my address in case she could send one after speaking to her supervisor. I told her I could give her the police department address and I would pick it up there, otherwise, I said "No, I' m not giving out anymore personal information! When the supervisor calls to say he is sending the Amazon gift card I will give him the address." The young lady then said her supervisor was out because his wife had a baby. He wouldn't be back till next week. No other supervisor? Nope...Talk, talk, double-talk!
About 20 minutes passed and Laura called back from Rainsoft and said she was sending out my gift card. That, my friends, is how you beat a scammer! Good Luck out there!
They call because I filled out a survey at a health fair that Home Depot set up a tent to represent their store. They were giving out test tube type things and asking you to take a sample of the water in your home then bring it in to the store for testing. What they didn't say was they'd be calling me relentlessly! Sometimes 4-5 times a day. Never leave a message. I block the number...they just keep calling under another number that's similar with the same area code. I don't answer calls from unknown numbers that don't leave messages. Surely they will eventually stop! Good Gawd!
