ALERT! ALERT! WHAT A PHONY!!
Yesterday (Thursday) I received a message from 202-241-0617 demanded I must not disregard this message from the IRS, and that I must call this number back right away or else a legal proceeding can go against me. The voice sounded like a robot.
Today (Friday) I called 202-241-0617 back, this person claimed to be an IRS agent named Jose Martin with heavy Indian accent answered the phone. Jose Martin said the IRS audited my last 10 years tax returns and found some errors in some of my tax returns and that I owe IRS money. He also claimed that he sent a letter to my home address on 3/28/2014 and that no one was home to receive the letter, therefore, time is running out and that IRS must seize my assets and bank accounts, garnish my wages and a police officer will be sent to my home to arrest me within 1-2 hours.
That nonsense went on for a while, and then suddenly he became aware of my "problem" and "situation" and agreed to send an IRS agent named Alex Cooper to my house to collect the check tomorrow (Saturday). When I told him I have to go to work tomorrow, then he said Alex Cooper will call me and meet me at my work. In the meantime, he said to transfer me to this senior officer named Alex Cooper, Alex Cooper will explain to me how to make payment.
When Alex Cooper came to the phone, he sounded exactly like Jose Martin (also with heavy Indian accent). I told Alex Cooper I don't know what's going on and how do I know for sure they are really representing the IRS. I went on and on, Alex Cooper hung up the phone. I tried to call 202-241-0617 back several times, the line was busy. What a mess!
I received a partially-cut off message on my home voice mail. The voice was female and computerized, claiming to be a "Smith". As the only portion of the message that was understandable was the call back number (202-506-8601) and something threatening action if I did not act, I called. An Indian male answered the line. As he was looking up my information, I Googled the phone number and saw the many posts referring to this as a scam. I told him this and he pretended to be getting someone else on the phone and then hung up. I called him back and told him what I had found, and he confessed "this is a scam. We have been doing this for years and we are making a lot of money." I told him he should be in prison and hung up.
Scam from a man named Hosea Martin. Wanted me to pay $4989.00 for back taxes and I had to stay on the phone with him while he did it. He said that a sheriff was coming to my house to arrest me and that since the bank is closed I should pay with a tax pay voucher. I'm in Michigan and my bank is open. He then hung up on me. Please do not give these people your information. They are scammers and are looking for a come up!!!
