The call is not local. These calls originate from outside the U.S. The caller gets a number in the states and then uses the Internet to make calls using VOIP (voice over Internet protocol) which is a way to make calls super cheap. About two cents per minute. They are checking for numbers that answer so they can then call back and try their scam on a real person.
I had posted back about a month ago, but I wonder what the difference is between my answering and the call getting answered by my answering machine. Also, when it goes to my answering machine, it could be that I'm not home or I am home but almost always screen calls from unknown numbers like this. I don't get the benefit they get from getting my answering machine all of the time.
Got a call from this number but no msg left. If it's a scam directed at seniors, how do scambags know if they're actually reaching a senior? Is our government providing a senior list somewhere?
