They called and said they were from my Canadian bank and that my VISA card had been used for a $300 eBay purchase and an $1100 western union transfer. I could barely hear them because of static and thick accents. They asked me to go to my computer and press the Windows key, which was super suspicious. When I asked whether they could confirm that they were from my bank, they gave me a long scare tactic about how the RCMP has been notified and fraud is very serious and we don't want to alert the fraudster. They could only give me the first four digits of my card number, which is common knowledge for each bank. I found this very suspicious and they hung up on me.
Got called advising that he was calling from western union and that there may have been illegitimate transaction on Visa card. I do not have a Visa card-then told me it was mc and that he was calling from mc...proceeded to ask me the first 5 nos of my cc.....told him I would check with my bank.....he hug up...Please be vigilant as they will try all tricks....
He called me before 8 AM. Claimed to be from Visa Security. Said a charge was made to my visa at 3 AM through EBay. Told him he was full of ...... because if that were true the bank would be calling and not him, then I hung up.
Got this call at 7:30am on my day off - claimed to be from visa security - heavy accent but named Josh - story was card used on ebay at 4 am - then he decided it was visa debit - told him I did not have visa debit - then he got annoyed and told me visa debit was same as client card - kept providing me with first 4 numbers - which would match any rbc debit card - strung him along a few minutes then told him I worked for rbc, and laughed at him and he hung up - live in NS Canada- My husband was concerned so I did confirm online and with our bank that no transanctions were made
Just had a call at 7:30. Lady with a heavy Indian or Pakistani accent indicated she was calling from visa security. I stopped her right there and asked her which bank she was calling from. I dont have any cards from that bank. So called her a scammer and hung up. I recently had my bank call me about suspect use. The first thing they do is tell you which bank they are calling from. The number called from had caller id of my bank, and the number was legit for my banks card dept..
Pretending to be from CRA wasnt panning out too well, so, they are trying a new scam. I can see many people getting caught in this one.
