They called and said they were from my Canadian bank and that my VISA card had been used for a $300 eBay purchase and an $1100 western union transfer. I could barely hear them because of static and thick accents. They asked me to go to my computer and press the Windows key, which was super suspicious. When I asked whether they could confirm that they were from my bank, they gave me a long scare tactic about how the RCMP has been notified and fraud is very serious and we don't want to alert the fraudster. They could only give me the first four digits of my card number, which is common knowledge for each bank. I found this very suspicious and they hung up on me.
The caller speaks very softly ...prompting you to say that you can't hear him.....then says "can you hear me now?" You automatically say "yes".... as opposed to saying "I can hear you now". I didn't let the conversation proceed beyond that as I had been warned... by my 90 year old hard of hearing father no less ... that this scam is trying to get you to be recorded as saying yes. My father was smarter than me apparently but at least I hung up ...thus minimizing the risk.
Called March 8 @9:19 am saying my visa card was used to make a $300 purchase on ebay @ 3 am.
Lady with Indian accent. I said thank you and I will contact my bank then hung up. Knew it was a scam
I got a call just before 9:a.m. in Nova Scotia. I have no idea what he was saying because I could not understand his garbled English. Asked him to repeat what he said in English that I could understand. He repeated his spiel which I still could not understand. So I snarled at him, "You are nothing but a fraud." He made a brief statement that I still could not understand and then he hung up. Thanks to all who have posted here.
My wife got a call from the same number this morning (March 18) asking if I had charged $200 to my Visa. She said wait until I get my husband on the phone, and the caller hung up.
