Criminals buy pieces of paper with people's information on them. It might be from an old bank or car loan that was paid off and you might have been listed on there. Or they might have gotten the information from some place that was hacked. In any case, put a fraud watch on your credit reports at the three major credit bureaus. Also If you feel you SSN has been compromised, in addition to putting a fraud alert at the 3 credit bureaus, you may want to notify the IRS. Here is the link, fill out the proper form (probably 14039):

I received a call from an unlisted number. The caller identified himself as "John from QRS". He said they tried to deliver documents to me for my court date but were unsuccessful. He tried get me to take down the number of the lawyer that is suing me. I said "that's not how this works, that's not how any of this works........they must not be much of a law firm, or they would know the procedure: the plaintiff files documents in court, then the court notifies the defendant via registered mail". He hung up on me.
I got a call from this QRS bunch with the same spiel about someone refusing to sign on my behalf, etc, having two hours to call back the number of the company that hired them etc. Caller id showed 330-269-9054 Hubbard, Ohio and the number I was supposed to call back was 213-268-2145. Bottom-feeding scumbag scam artists.
I got a call from this company a week ago, same message everybody else had. When I called back and spoke to someone, who was rude as hell by the way, said I was being sued by a company and I refused to sign documents. Wanted my work address to serve me there, since I wouldn't be home during business hours. I never gave it to him. What scares me is he had my social security number and my home address, none of which I gave him either. Now I'm trying to figure out how they have my information.
