Caller claimed Citi bank fraud department was calling me to check on a credit card application. I already have two Citi Cards and did not receive a text or email from Citi. So i called Citi and they said they did not contact me and I should report the person who called me.
It's a legitimate 3rd party caller on behalf of Citibank credit card. I got almost simultaneous calls on both cell and home phone about verifying charge on Citibank credit card. They didn't ask me for ANY personal/account info, but already knew my name and last 4 digits of my card and were able to tell me info about my last 2 credit card charges (both amount and store name) that occurred 15 minutes prior. Both charges were legitimate, so I simply replied "yes" and they cleared the "fraud alert" so I could use card again.
I received a call from them shortly after applying online for a Shell Gas Card. The online application wasn't approved because I have fraud protection with all three credit bureaus. The call was for ID verification purposes.
They wanted to know if i had applied for a credit card thru office depot. They asked for my social security number,. but i did not give it to them. He said he was from city bank.
I got five calls within a half hour. Caller ID stated CITI and when I called back all I got was a recording stating it was "Citi" and I was to call 1-800-950-5114. The 800 number claimed to be Citicorp and they wanted things like my SSN and bank info. I refused to give out any info besides my name and address.
I do not have a Citicorp card nor have I applied anywhere. The 800 number does actually belong to Citicorp and is listed on their website.
They did not have my telephone number in their system and said they had no records of needing to contact me or call my number. They also said they have no idea who 423-467-6460 was.
this phone number is from best buy. they called us back from the lost/stolen division. caller id did say citi... it is not a scam. we were talking to them and they needed to call us back.
