Caller claimed Citi bank fraud department was calling me to check on a credit card application. I already have two Citi Cards and did not receive a text or email from Citi. So i called Citi and they said they did not contact me and I should report the person who called me.
This number left a weird message on my vm. It sounded electronic, very hard to understand. It claimed it was bestbuy and left a number 877 560 1088. I called both numbers 423 and 877 , both went nowhere. There was a blank, dead air. Nothing rang. Certain it was a scam I called the number on the back of my credit card. Shockingly it was real. They were verifying a new card they had sent. I told them about how strange this inquiry sounded and they have 2 pages of complaints on 800notes. They needed to get a better way of contacting customers, not the electronic voice with non-functional numbers that go nowhere.
Got the same call. Mine was totally legitimate. In other words, there had been charges to my Citi Visa at a Office Depot, a gas station and a restaurant in Baltimore , MD. I was nowhere near the state of MD on the date the charges were attempted. Called CitiBank back and confirmed these were not my charges and they cancelled my card and FedExed me a new one.
BE careful- do not give any information out, they are trying to fish out account info. They say they are citi bank but they are really not- SCAMMERS! They say' hi im calling from citi, is this 'your name'? There is some fraudulent activity on your debit card- can you please verify some information.... When I asked them to verify theirs (as I don't have a debit with city) they claim they must have dialed the wrong number. I asked them for their name and extension- "sorry I cant give that info away' . PURE SCAM! I called citi after, they confirmed everything was fine with my account.
