just got this message.
i called them and they wanted my email, then put me on hold and told me what was wrong with my iPad. i asked him how he did this and he said through my email and then hacked into the system...i don't think he was supposed to say that word. But after giving him my email i immediately regretted it and asked for a superior to see what he'd say. He told me he was the only supervisor--not surprising. He told me it would cost $80.
I reset and cleared and rebooted. I hope they just wanted a credit card number and can't hack into my iPad!
I called back to ask where he was located and if I should tell the authorities his name when I contact them for the scam and he hung up. I hope having my phone number and email isn't enough to do any real damage!
I was on a website on my phone and I got this message about my ios crashing and it told me to call this number. Is my phone now hacked? Luckily, I got rid of it.
I also had my safari freeze and the message pop up. I did call the number. A man answered and asked for my serial number on my phone, which I did give him, and if the number I was calling from was my cell number. Luckily I called from my land-line. He then informed me that a third party had tried to hack my personal info from my phone and the rectify the situation I needed to spend $49.95. I, admittedly, reacted hastily and refused. I told him I would go to AT&T, my provider, and have them fix it. He told me that I would have to pay that even if I went there. I told him I would buy a NEW phone before I paid that! Luckily, for my sake, my baby cried. I then told him I had to go and literally hung up on him. My husband was able to get Safari working again by rebooting my phone a couple times, but I have spent 3 hours on and off the phone with AT&T resetting my phone in hopes that I have removed the hacker from it. The AT&T rep assured me that they have no access to my info on my phone and that they only wanted my credit card info, but I'm still reluctant to believe that. I mean, how did they freeze my internet in the first place? Is my phone really safe? I don't know.
