I was on a site which may have been .net instead of the .com that I dialed and then my screen froze with some error message and a woman's automated voice came on telling me that I had an 'Alert' and to call the 647# immediately because I had a virus...

I wish I would have thought to ask that but I was flustered and his accent was so thick it was difficult to understand him. He got my name and e-mail though. I asked what other info he was going to ask before I gave  him those and I don't know what he said. He wanted to know what I use my computer for and I told him it was none of his business. I had to tell him three times and he said, 'oh for business?'. I repeated what I had said and then like an idiot said 'political and genealogy sites' which is just personal and I don't know why he would need to know that. He told me to force quit Safari (which I have been having trouble with for a while - sometimes being told that it is 'not supported' and when I try to update it, it doesn't do anything.  So I thought maybe he was going to help with that.  He asked if I'd bought anything on line recently and I said 'no' (but just remembered that I had a couple of days ago that just went through) - so I thought he might be legit at that point. Guess not if he hung up on you.

This number popped up on my Mac, I called and after the other party had control of my computer I started doubting and saying I didn't feel comfortable. He hung up and claimed to have disconnected all of his connections to my computer. I Am concerned that they still have access to my computer when I am connected to wifi, anyone know if they can still hack into my computer after they have "disconnected"?

Yes, it's likely that they configured the software they connected with to startup automatically every time the computer boots up.  Then it sits waiting for them to connect whenever they want.  Ordinarily, you would see the icon for that program in the 'system tray' at the bottom right on a Windows computer - I don't know about a Mac.  You would need to uninstall that program to prevent the remote connection (might be TeamViewer, SupportMe or other name...).  Also, scan for the malicious software that pops up the scam phone number in the first place.  In the meantime, you might want to disconnect the computer's power line and internet to prevent unwanted stealth connections.
