We bought a new computer about a month ago. I downloaded McAfee virus scan in hopes of protecting my system from something like this. Yesterday, it completely bombed out and we could not get it booted without it having error message upon error message. I couldn't even get a web browser.

My harddrive was reported to be massively failing and I was terrified of losing my information. It's back at the shop where we originally purchased it. Thankfully, it's still under warranty. However, I'm supremely disappointed that McAfee didn't stop this virus!

I foolishly entered my phone number and have received two calls already. I feel like an idiot now.

To the "President" who is spamming with the same message for all of our posts ... sir, you need to do a press release if you're truly legitimate.

This company or group is a bunch of scammers! They send out a trojan then provide the "fix" for their own problem that they created! However, I was fortunate that my McAfee Security Plus protected my pc and eliminated this trojan! Yes they got my credit card information and have charged the account, but I will get that back with no problem! I also received a phone call, from someone not able to speak very good english, from someone representing to be from this company and that they represent Google. I still have the message saved on my cell phone and this information will be provided to the authorities for prosecution to the fullest extent allowed!

I had the SAME EXACT issue last week.  Something that appeared to be a Windows 7 virus protection (SMART H.D.D.) popped up and told me I had to upgrade to repair the issues.  Stupidly, I plugged in my credit card, which I ended up immediately canceling about 20 minutes later.

The next day, this number from Milbrae, CA comes up on my cell and the woman (who I could barely understand) leaves a message.  I call back, and the woman answers the phone, "Is this (my name)?" - ehhh, creepy!!!  Then, she proceeds to incoherently tell me she's from Google and was wondering whether my computer had gotten fixed.  Again, my creep radar goes off, thinking "how does this person even know my computer had a virus."

To the person "claiming" to be the owner of the company, here's some advice:
1) your business model is at best, odd, and probably borders on offensive.  With the heightened risk of identity theft and "phishing" scams out there, it's probably not a good idea to have your reps randomly call people on issues that they probably shouldn't even know about to begin with

2) your representative, for all I know, worked for the group of hacker nerds that infected my computer with the virus, and was looking for more information from me.  It was certainly suspicious and there was no way I was giving "Sandra" any personal information.

You might be a reputable company, but you scare the heck out of people going about business in the way you do.

Frank, that sounds just like my experience today! My system crashed yesterday and it took me all day to get things* back; finally, Windows Data Recovery saved my bacon! The tech I talked to yesterday told me that he could fix it for $220 (and then gave me a "deal" for $180) and that my local tech would have "no idea where to look to fix THIS problem"... Really obvious where the virus came from, huh!!! Got a second call today and simply hung up. Hurrah for call block!

* my files were retrieved by my digging, the WDR system was used to find and repair my programs!

Got a call from this number 48 hours after getting the Smart HDD virus while using Google Chrome. Caller did not identify the company he worked for, but said they worked with Google. I tried loading Norton, it removed the virus but the files were still hidden. Had to pay Smart $80 for the virus upgrade software to unhide files. I will never use Chrome, trust Google or any Indian or Pakistani caller who will not tell me how they got my cell phone number or how they know I got a virus recently. They are the virus that will hold your data hostage until you pay the ransom.
