Did a reverse lookup on the number. It originated in Palo Alto. The carrier is Pac West Telecomm (HQ in Stockton, CA) A quick call to customer service (if you are on the do-not-call list (FCC)) had them call the offending party, and they will remove your number from this scam.
Claimed to be from a contractor (GF construction--I think I heard) in Palo Alto looking to do home construction services. Didn't find any listing for the company in Palo Alto on the internet. There was noise in the background like it was from a telemarketer.
Just called me. GF builders offering a "sale" in my area. When I politely said, "you know I really don't want to waste your time" he abruptly hung up. Bad feeling...
Silence and the a mechanical "goodbye". Repeated calls. Odd. Did reverse look-up at whitepages.com. It is a PacWest Telecom landline in the 94305 zip code (exclusively Stanford University).
