Weird call
I just got a call from a man with heavy Indian  accent saying he was a verified Microsoft technical support company. Said company name was Happy Software. I couldn't help but to feel that this was a bigger scam then just California.  he was trying to gather info by asking me to push the Microsoft key and the R key and had me enter eventvwr. Looked as if my computer was infected with yello and red warnings and then had me shut down and then when I turned computer back on said to continually hit he f8 key. I didn't do that and hung up. Gave me a weird number 718-593-4198. Who or what agency is out there that handles these sorts of calls/computer scams? Seems like a big problem.

I am a senior citizen living abroad. I maintain my original phone number which would appear to be in Northern CA. I recvd a call very much like the others. The caller stated he was in Brooklyn NY and cited the phone number as proof. I indicated that this was no indicator (since he was certain he was calling CA). Despite this he took advantage of my limited computer knowledge and gained access to my machine as well as convincing me to purchase his service for US $119. Fortunately he was unable to acceess the funds. He then asked me to give him my credit card information so that he could run this himself. At this point I flatly refused to speak with him or his numerous "technicians", assistants and "managers". I continue to be fearful of additional bogus activity on their part. To date it does not appear that anything further has happened. They receive payment via mercaway.int or something similar.

Received an "Out of Area" call today july 26, 2012 from a man with a thick East Indian accent claiming he was from IT at Happy Software  representing Microsoft and my computer had a virus that would prevent my computer from turnng on. He said he worked for Happy Software from  Brooklyn New York and would transfer me to some one technical to get into my computer. He said there was no charge for this service. I said take my number off their call list, no thanks for the service and hung up. This is the second phone call received; the other call came from an unfamiliar cell phone number. When asked how they got my number they said a survey.

Same as earlier reported from those who posted before me, HOWEVER, the phone number that now comes up is.... (123) 456-7890!  Being naturally suspicious, I started asking questions before the guy (from India, obviously) could hook me into the scam.  But, and just like one of the other reporters of this scammer, I can't help but feel that they DID know what was going on with my computer and the issues I was having with it of late.  Is it possible that they CAN or DID get into my computer?  Now I'm really worried!

Had 2 calls from Happy Software this evening. Played along to get their details but would not give me their number. The first hung up quite angrily. The second went very quietly with that person hanging up I did not replace the handset[?] on the phone and hoping this means they cannot make further calls on their phone.

Is that right? Assume that may not be if they were actually calling via a VOIP system.

Note there is a legitimate company called Happy Software: feel for them in having these nobs use their name. On this company's website they advise who people should call and even give you [in the USA] a code number to quote in order to systemise the problem and maybe force more action even if it the nobs are in India.
