Just received same phone call from "Happy Software" in Brooklyn. Asked for his address, wouldn't give it to me. Asked for his phone #, wouldn't give it to me. Asked to speak to his supervisor, said he couldn't do that. Then he told me to have a nice day.
The man with the East Indian accent called himself Daniel Martin. He knew my last name and said he was with my internet provider and they had been receiving error messages from my computer for the last week. My computer did crash this week so I let him continue talking, meanwhile my red flags were still up. He asked exactly what happened and I told him that I had shut the computer down & unplugged it - he wanted me to plug it in and work on it with him over the phone - I said I was walking out the door, could I call him back? - he insisted we give it a try now. I said I really have to go, what number do I call and do I ask for you, Daniel Martin? He seemed a little unnerved that I remember his name and after hesitating, he gave this number and told me to ask for Mr. Brandon. "Mr. Brandon" must be code for "sucker alert!"
We received a call from Alex as well we pressed him for a phone number then reported him tot he CRTC this is like our fifteenth call from them. CRTC said they are going to fine them and look into it.
Aug 18/11, 6:19 pm Just had the same call from "Alex Wilson" saying something wrong with computer - while another person was on computer - interesting??? - we're in Canada
Same story as most already told. My guy was named Kevin. I was passed around to 4 guys before I got a "technician that I mostly understood (accents are too heavy). I kept asking them how do I know who they are representing...as I got a call out of the blue. I repeatedly asked them to prove who they are. Funny no answer to that question. Good luck to all...don't fall for it. Soooo Stressful!!!
Just got the same call got Alex Technical Support then spoke to his supervisor Sam and then Senior Supervisor Dan. It started with Alex asking if my computer was on then I asked to speak to his supervisor who eventually put me on with Dan. They all claimed they were with Microsoft and and Windows Operating Systems - which I don't believe. When I told them I had been inundated with Scam phones calls with tons of people trying to get me to turn my computer on - the last guy told me no we really are with Microsoft and we are phoning all of our users to warn them of the scam, then ended the call. - I still reported to Anti-Fraud.
