I find your story hard to 'swallow', since if you 'just happened' here from a call from "them" (you failed to mention who), you would have seen the helpful posts already made (scroll down) and known the person you were replying to is knowledgeable about debt collecting practices. Its suspicious you would choose BigA to give any "advice" to, thats if you really read anything for this number.

I apologize for not reading the entirety of this thread prior to just posting. I also did not choose any one person to give advise to. I really did not mean to reply to one person. Everyone please accept my sincerest apologies for not reading on and seeing that everyone was already well informed. I have learned my lesson about posting anything. And, please, do not feel it necessary to try to "swallow" anything from me. It was not meant for you.
They said they were retained by a debt collector to serve papers at my home or work for an outstanding debt owed to USBC. She did not know how the outstanding debt originated but I know that it was an $1,800 deficiency balance owed after I wrecked a vehicle in 2007 and it was totaled. I fought the original creditors over it because I had GAP insurance but they would not pay the balance because my note was 12 days overdue at the time of my accident. I kept arguing with them and asking them to sue me so I could have my day in court. They never did. The debt was sold to first one collection agency and then another and now it is with this company. (I couldn't even catch the name of the company.) I only called them back and tried to look up their legal name because of their contention that they "had been retained to serve me papers either at home or my place of employment."
