My call from this number was from "MY" credit card company to let me know that although my credit card was good, it was about to expire. I don't have a credit card!
Consumers have a right to privacy of their phones and numbers. These calls are an attack upon our rights. If someone was not making money from all of this, it would have faded away long ago (we can hope).
I got the same call today, August 10, 2013, in south Louisiana. When they didn't leave a message I quickly added the number to my personal do not call list. My Panasonic phone handles un-wanted calls in a terrific manner. After I add the number to my do not call list the phone rings one time and the caller is cut off. Wish I had this phone five years ago!
