I just got the same call 12;30 in the afternoon. It's really annoying. Especially when you have to reset your answering machine...That's why I do not give my number out but these people probably dial every number in the book!!
I answered and caller (male) said he was offering a great deal on subscriptions to "the Chronicles". I asked for the phone number for the company. He paused, then said "It's on page two of the paper. I can offer you a great deal..." I asked to speak to his supervisor. He asked why. I said that my phone was a cell phone and that they weren't supposed to be calling cell phones. He said just a moment, then a couple guys burst out laughing and hung up the phone. Sounds like a fishing scam for credit card numbers. I called my local police, but they only said they'd call the number to talk to them.
Thank GOD..., I was curious if I was the only one receiving calls. I usually receive them at around 7pm PST. Now that I know what they are, I will be sure to avoid the phone calls and report them. I suggest everyone else do the same also.
