BEWARE!!!!!! This automated number called me about lowering my interest rate on my student loan with the new Obama legislation. Funny thing....I DON'T HAVE A STUDENT LOAN! They hung up on me.
It rang twice, then hung up, left no message. Almost certainly a scam. One way a company can get around the telephone consumer protection act of 1991, which prohibits calling so phone numbers for telemarketing, is to call you, hang up, and hope you will call back. Since you have called them, they can telemarket with impunity. However, anyone who would use this strategy is undoubtedly a scammer.
