You are an idiot. Not all people can not or do not pay their bills because of overspending. Losing their jobs for many different reasons at no fault of their own or medical reasons etc. Get off your high horse and do a little research... MORON!

You are really full of bull.  I will only address the rules concerning bill collectors in Texas but I know that most of the rules are similar elsewhere.  First of all, on any unsecured loan (loans not involving collateral) if you do not make payments for 6 consecutive months the lender is required to write the loan off.  In that six month period if you make even a $1.00 payment the timeline starts over.    After the loan is written off then is when the loans are sold to the bill collectors often for pennies on the dollar.  In the state of Texas you are not required to deal with a bill collector.  You simply tell them to write to you and provide a copy of the original documentation of your loan along with the name and address of the person or company that is now attempting to collect the debt.  After receiving the letter from the bill collector you politely  inform them that you do not deal with bill collectors and they should turn the loan back to the original company that had the loan.  It is important to note that the letter to the debt collector must be sent to them by certified mail with return receipt requested.  Once the debt collector (or a designee authorized to sign for that collectors mail) has received the letter they may no longer contact you in any manner.  They are also not allowed to make any report to the credit bureau concern their collection efforts.  Very bad things can happen to really good people and the purpose of this law is intended to make sure that bill collectors are not piling on so to speak when people are in a very difficult position.  All of this information can be obtained free simply by googling "Bud Hibbs".  For those that find themselves being bombarded by bill collectors the info you gain from him will be a godsend.
