Yes, this is either a scam to get you to pay some "processing fee" or deductible or plain vanilla insurance fraud. Why in the world you need your DNA tested anyway? As far as knowing your info, that can happen in many ways. Insurance company leak is possible. If you are older, over 55, you are targeted since you are apt to be trusting, and also can be intimidated.
Do NOT call these crooks back. Do not talk to them if they call again. That just gets you more calls from them and others. Block the calls from that number.
You might be able to report this to your insurance carrier. It is worth calling your carrier to see if they are interested in having the phone number and the name the crooks are using. Long shot, but might help others.
This has been a nuisance with multiple callers over the last three days. Initially they were just hang ups when I would pick up. A couple times an automated voice said "goodbye" prior to the hangup and then yesterday a live caller with lots of voices in the background asked for Halal - I was answering in the car so hung up. Today they asked for David Conner. As soon as I began to call them on their nuisance behaviors they hung up.
I called them back after multiole calls. The caller was Express Labs offering a "free wellness test and genetic screening" as part of my health insurance. She said she'd take me off their call list.
Multiple calls received regarding wellness and genetic testing that they say would be covered by my insurance based on a form that was submitted. They could not tell me where I filled out the form and it seems very suspicious. Called my health insurance and they weren't aware of this call.
If you're receiving a call to have YOUR DNA collected and "mailed off" to WHO KNOWS WHERE and YOU nor your insurance company HAVE NOT NEGOTIATED or ARRANGED this type of "health verification transaction" FIRST...then you REALLY already know what the NEXT STEP IS WHEN YOU RECEIVE SUCH A CALL: Hang Up or Courteously state that you're NOT INTERESTED.
Problem solved when you have that number BLOCKED from contacting your phone(s).
