A man called stating he was calling from Microsoft and told me that my computer was sending out viruses. They were very concerned.....I bet, they need my info. to steal my identity! There were many voices in the background as well. He let me know that my computer had been hacked and I needed to fix the issue right away, he even addressed me by my first and last name. I hung up on him.

I spent the better part of 20 minutes pretending I was walking through their troubleshooting steps just to keep their line busy and cost them some $, never was at my computer during the call.

Its a definate scam, they're telemarketing something but it's a bad service. Just be sure to waste their time - you'll save someone from getting fished if you just grab a drink, sit outside, and pretend to be typing in their commands.

Please though - don't trust them. Microsoft won't answer the phone if you call them for help, so why would you think they'd call you to offer help?

I received the call on 11/10 at 11:46 AM Central Time. I did not answer and no message was left. I have never done business with anyone at this number and my number is on the Do Not Call Registry. Please shut them down. Thank you.

I received a call from a lady saying my computer had viruses and needed to be updated. She had my personal information and I have a foreign exchange student who uses this computer so I thought maybe he had been on some foreign website. I was passed around to different techs and they wanted my credit card to fix my computer and it would be a one time fee. I hung up and they called back. After speaking with my computer tech. he said this is a very common problem.

I received a similar call at 8:30 this morning from the same number. A man with an Indian accent, he didn't ask for my name, he just started talking, saying his name was "Steve" and he was a computer or software technician, then the line went dead. Apparently he hung up. I waited, but no call back. After reading these other posts, I notice the Microsoft connection. I've only had Apple devices in my house for years, but I just installed Windows 8 on my Mac. I didn't register / authenticate it, so that may be why he didn't know my name. There must be something in Windows providing these people with the info the are using to contact us. Anyone else not using Windows being contacted this way?
