Received a call from 202-011-3341 AT 5:09 THIS MORNING! Caller id just says "Dist of Columbi" which matches the area code, but I read in a previous post that the 011 part is an invalid exchange. I work with embassies in DC, along with countless businesses in Europe/Scandinavia, so didn't hesitate to pick up, thinking it was bad news from them. The caller asked, "Is this so-and-so?" and when I replied, "Who IS this?!?", they hung up. Robo-calls/solicitation calls are one thing, BUT AT OH-DARK-THIRTY IN THE MORNING?!?!?! Sleeping Beauty is more like the Wicked Witch today...
Received a call indicating my Windows and computer had been hacked. Said I needed some sort of software to protect it and that they would have me sign a "crypted" charge slip and it would get installed. Said if I didn't Iwould lose the ability to use the internet. Asked them why would I do exactly what Microsoft and Windows tell me not to. They tried every trick in the book. lol Never lost anything! Scam.
Unbelievable, had me going for a minute. Had a heavy Indian type accent. Said he was with Mircosoft and my computer was blinking red & blue and that meant hankers were trying to get into my computer at this very minute. He knew my name, address and obviously my phone number. Said my computer was being hacked right at this moment and that I needed to get it and turn it on. I told him I did have my computer on and was not having any issues. He then started speaking a foreign language or gibberish. I asked him to speak English and he continued. I asked him again to speak English or I was going to hang up. He did not comply and I hung up.
Now what really concerns me is that he had my name address and phone number.
I didn't know that India had its own area code. You can barelythe understand whoever is making the call. This appears to be some kind of computer scam where they are trying to get remote access to one's computer by alleging that they have information that your computer is in need of repair. and they are persistent
Nov 27 2012. 11:58 This number called and ID as 202 011 3341. Did not know number so did not answer. No message was left. Suspect a scam based on other comments above. If you don't recognise the number ID don't pick up the phone.
