I also received a call from this number and it disconnected after a computer voice said good bye. Would have given him an earful if started scam. Good to have this venue.
Could barely understand the guy talking. Said he was with the U.S. government. Asked me if I had filed a criminal complaint or for bankruptcy. When I said no, he said something about how I was eligible for $9000 and how would I like to receive the money. I hung up. I've gotten this type of scam over email - never over the phone before!
BIG SCAM. Search on the FTC website for Government Grants Scam. They have a lot of information on this scam. They way it works is they want your bank information to direct deposit the "grant" or a debit card number to add the funds to. There is also a "processing fee". If you fall for the bait, be prepared to lose a lot of money.
just got a call and i lit into the dude. told him people from my government don't talk like that and he was full of [***]. he couldn't get off the line fast enough!! everyone else should try that approach.
Just got a call saying I had received some $9000 grant. Told him to either go through my school and to have a nice day. If this was real he wouldn't have to be so pushy about trying to give me money...fake.
