I received the same call while at work. After listening to the message I decided it was a scam, so I looked it up and found your post. Then I decided to wait to see if they would call back. Later the same afternoon they did call again with the same message. I called back right away and spoke to a rep. They asked for the right last name but when I asked for my first name they asked for a name, which we have received mail for before, which is a combination of my name and my sons. When I told them that person doesn't even exist they kindly said thank you and hung up. Scam scam scam
Just got their call, (1/20) and thought it fishy from the start, if for no other reason the boiler room sounds in the background and the bad English. They had some personal info, but I do know the IRS and how it works. They NEVER move fast, certainly not within 45 minutes of a call, as these folks wanted me to believe. There is always paperwork, multiple versions through the mail. They never threaten litigation without months of attempting to resolve a dispute. You have rights to an attorney and to face your accuser. The idea that "they tried 3 times to serve me with Court papers," was nonsense. Nevertheless, it's unnerving to say the least. If they call, ignore them. If they actually reach you and you want to have some fun, ask for a street address, the actual case number and court in which the case is filed. Put them on hold. Repeatedly. They get really riled up and hang up on you...
Got a robo call message from 202-239-1258 three time on 1/20/15 saying a lawsuit had been filed in my name but did not mention my name. Sounded bogus to me. Then off to the internet found the information on this site and confirmed my suspicion it is a bogus scam by scum. Per Google - extortion - the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats.
I got the tail end of the recording on my answering machine & heard a recorded message state something about sending the matter to the local sheriff department. We do sometimes receive calls that have dialed the wrong number; I usually call to let them know they got it wrong. When the man answered I did not understand him; I told him that I did not hear him, told him about the recording & asked who I was speaking to. He told me the IRS. I repeated, the IRS, he said yes. He started talking & I asked "so this is the Internal Revenue Service because that is what I think of when I hear IRS." He got irritated, would not answer the question & hung-up on me.
My wife was getting harrassed by these morons, so I decided to call them and have some fun. He answered the call as Montreal IRS, I replied, "wow you don't sound Canadien at all" (Sounded Indian)...He got very angry and started yelling "Alien, you're an Alien, I don't talk to Aliens" and then hung-up. Although this had me laughing pretty hard..Just shows how stupid this really is, if you are reading this you already know its a scam...Report them to the FTC!!
