This is a scam, be warned. I have received a few calls from these idiots and have finally figured out what the scam is. I engaged these idiots for the express purpose of reporting them to the IRS. The person, who is Indian sounding and claiming to be Internal Revenue Service officer Roy Jacob, Badge ID#IRM4157, advised me that I have a lawsuit against me and asked if I would like to settle out of court or in court. I said, of course, out of court. He then instructed me to withdraw immediately from my bank nearly $5,000. When I told him the bank was closed, he asked when he could call back. I told him to call tomorrow morning and I'd be ready with the money. He said he will at that time he will provide me with the "attorney general's" bank name, routing number and account number. And once the money was deposited, he would give me a confirmation number or someone else named Jason Brown would do this...anyway, I wasn't really listening to all the ins-and-outs of the details he was spouting. But the end result would be that my "arrest warrant" would be lifted. I asked if the refund I received this year was wrong and he said that it was an audit for the years 2008-2013. Yes, a five year audit that I never participated in. What a moron! He said twice not to disclose this to anyone and that it was "confidential". At the end of the conversation, I told him I would consult my father, who does work for the IRS and my mother who is an attorney. I couldn't hold in my laughter and he quickly got off the phone. I just like to have a little fun. They change numbers all the time, this is at least the 4th number I've been called from or told to call. But it's always the same squirmy Indian dude.

Um ... is it possible you are a bit slow?

There is a widespread IRS (or CRA) or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both USA and Canadian residents.

USA tax payers should read this:
http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterate ... -Telephone-Scam

Canadian tax payers should read this:
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/nwsrm/lrts/2013/l131210-eng.html

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Educational post:
This scam is also described as scam #11, here:

If you were contacted by an IRS impostor, you may file a report, after clicking on this link:

No, I am not slow, but thanks for being an [***] and misunderstanding the intent of my post. To reiterate, I engaged them to figure out what they were doing and how they were doing it so I could report more info to the IRS. And yes, I have already filed a report. I just also wanted to post this info out there in case someone who is unsure of what's going on (elderly people are often preyed upon) and just wants to avoid arrest or a lawsuit at whatever cost. This happens to unsuspecting people all the time.
Thanks for posting links though, that is actually helpful for people.
