As you can see by the links in my post, the IRS knows about the scam. It tops their "Dirty Dozen" scams for 2015.
The phone numbers, unfortunately, are usually spoofed, or made from VOIP or burner phones ... it seems most of the scammers are calling from India or Pakistan, as you might have guessed.
Google "IRS scam" and you will see an overabundance of reports from the IRS, news reports, and other sources.
The exact phrase that suggested you were "slow" was "[I] have finally figured out what the scam is".
In other words, the reports have existed for quite a long time. You did not have to call them back to determine the purpose of the scam. A quick internet search would have given you lots of information, along with the correct place to report the scam.
What might even have been more telling was your statement, "I just like to have a little fun".
This is not a "fun" matter. Too many people ARE being taken in by the scam.
Your latest post suggests you have reasonable intelligence. Unfortunately, you did not exhibit that intelligence in your original post. However, if you do wish to help, continue to monitor 800notes ... report any phone scammers that call you, and assist any folks who are in danger of being scammed. But ... please do it in a mature manner. Too many visitors think this is just another blog in which to ... um ... have fun.
Bah, I see no harm in engaging and having a little fun with them. It's sad that people fall for this, but I am not one of them, and since they already know my number, what are they gonna do? Call me again? It's not like they're going to come from India and show up on my doorstep.
Also, have you ever seen an older person attempt to use google? Just reporting the details of the scam here so that regardless if a person knows to google "IRS scam" or googles this number specifically, the information is out there. You obviously sit around and troll this board, so you should be glad someone is posting facts, regardless of whether or not you agree that visitors are all adhering to your rules of maturity. I really do wish to help and hope that the IRS calls me for details. Agreed, they are most likely in another country using various numbers (I've received calls from NJ, CA, MI, and Wash DC).
Oh, and dude was supposed to call me at 10am this morning to make sure I've withdrawn that $5,000. Well, it's 10:25 and no call yet. I guess my lawsuit was dropped and I'm no longer in danger of arrest! Thank ya, Jesus!
