The computer-generated sounding message on my cell phone from this number (202-241-7314) said it was from "Julie Smith" with the IRS and that she needed to speak with me immediately. When I called I got a "Stephen Clark" (with a heavy Indian accent) who tried to convince me that he was from the Internal Revenue Service and that if we did not pay outstanding taxes immediately a warrant would be issued for me and my husband immediately and all our money seized. He said that while they had attempted to send me this information by registered mail twice, but nobody was home either time. Since I had moved last year, I was worried that this was possible. When I asked him about why this phone number wasn't a 800 number with an extension, he told me that it was a direct line and then he called my cell phone from another line and it showed as 1-800-829-1040... a number listed on the IRS.gov website. That made me almost believe them. Then he told me that while he couldn't resolve this situation, his supervisor "Alex Cooper" could help me. When I told "Alex" (another heavy Indian accent) that we did not have the money and started crying he finally took pity on me and admitted that this whole thing is a scam. PLEASE share this info about this phone number - I would hate to see someone lose their savings to this horrible scam.

I just received the same "Julie Smith" message. I also was worried. I called back. A foreign sounding male answered the phone. I asked him what this was in regards to. He said Julie Smith was not there and she will call me back.... Bet she will after reading these posts. Thank you for the warning.

I received the same kind of call from somebody who may have said that her name was Mary Smith, claimed she worked for the IRS, and that this call pertained to a specific case number.  After she was through reading her spiel, assuming that the call was not a robo-call, I yelled back into the phone telling the caller that she was an idiot, that the IRS does not make personal phone calls, especially on Saturday, and that I would report her call as an FTC violation, which I did on the FTC's electronic from for Do Not Call List violations.  I also called back the number and received a recording for "Magic Jack" telling me that the number I called was not assigned and that I could obtain that particular phone number.  I then tried to do a star 75 trace of the previous call, and my Comcast trace function went dead.  Also, I could not repeat a star 69 of the same number.  I then called my home phone number back using another phone line, it rang, but star 69 no longer worked until numerous minutes later.  I do not know how this entity was able to fornicate up star 69 and star 57 trace with my home phone line, but it did.  I tried to immediately call Comcast to try to report a malfunction of my Comcast phone line, but I could not succeed in calling back Comcast immediately after the call came in.  I do not know how this perpetuator of such a hoax was able to interfere with the normal functioning of my telephone for several minutes.  Some minutes later I was able to perform a star 69 and obtain the caller ID for the number I used to call back my own phone number to check out my telephone..  I do not know how this scammer was able to interfere with the normal functioning of my telephone line for several minutes after placing the call.  I do not know what kind of idiot is placing such calls and has the ability also to fornicate up a private phone line..

Same msg and similar story as above. First a voice mail in Chinese accent from four different numbers. I called this number back. The accent changed to Middle Eastern, Pakistani or Indian - hard to tell, but whatever it was, it was a very bad accent. Threatened me with jail, for tax fraud and if I do not pay right away through "Alex Cooper". The crazy part was the background Muslim prayer calls. When did IRS move its offices to Cairo or Karachi? Obviously a scam. I told them so. He started screaming in some weird language - probably Arabic or whatever these Muslims speak.

Report the Calls to the real IRS here:
•report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

******
Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.
